A New Stamp Dedicated to the First Lithuanian National Olympics

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the first Lithuanian National Olympics that were arranged in Kaunas. To commemorate this event, Lithuania Post is issuing a postage stamp.

The new stamp is featuring running sportsmen banded with the national tricolour. The stamp has been created by the painter Tomas Dragunas. The stamp is released in the edition of 80 thousand copies with a nominal value of LTL 1.35.

The first Lithuanian National Olympics were held on the 17th -31st of July in 1938 in Kaunas and Klaipeda (hosted sailing and rowing races). The Olympics received above 2 000 Lithuanian sportsmen from Lithuania, Brazil, Great Britain, the USA, and Latvia.

The sportsmen competed in 17 sports: aviation, boxing, sailing, football, rowing, horse sport, women's and men's basketball, track-and-field athletics, swimming, table tennis, women's and men's volleyball, cycling, and national dances.

Following the example of the first Lithuanian National Olympics, in 1978 Toronto hosted the first World Lithuanian Olympic Games that are still being arranged. The second Lithuanian National Olympics were arranged in 1998 in Siauliai.

In a course of a year, Lithuania Post releases 25-30 stamps. Lithuania Post also provides courier, logistics, and financial intermediation services.
