Marseille will become European Capital of Culture in 2013 and it is Tatah Djamel, a contemporary artist, very attached to Marseille and the Mediterranean, which was chosen to symbolize this European Capital. As well as the Southern City, he is deeply rooted in the Mediterranean culture, and knows how to make his cultural contributions in its richness and diversity.

In this regard, La Poste issued a stamp to celebrate the event.

Created by the European Union in 1985, the title of capital of culture is a label that allows two winning cities to be two poles of meetings and artistic creations. In 2013, Marseille and the Slovenian town of Kosice have received this coveted title.

More than 400 events, exhibitions, concerts, revelations of young talent will be held in the European capitals of culture aiming to highlight the European multiculturalism.

In Marseille the program will run in three episodes: "Marseille-Provence welcomes the world", "Marseille-Provence outdoor" and "Marseille-Provence with a thousand faces."
