This special joint stamp issue was released by Vietnam and Laos Post to commemorate the 50th anniversary of relationship of traditional friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos which was nurtured by the generations of leaders and people of two countries.

The two nations of Vietnam and Laos on the Indochinese peninsula, for over a century under the domination of the colonial empire, have been attached and united in struggle against the common enemy. On the 5th of September 1962, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the Kingdom of Laos officially established diplomatic relations.
