The Polynesian Post has issued a stamp dedicated to a wonderful legend about Taaroa, the Polynesian god of creation, essence and origin of the world.
According to the legend, Taaroa breaks out of his shell, emerging from darkness and from the void to create the world. From shell's substance he forms the earth, the stones and the sand. With his tears he creates the sea to cover the earth, from his fingernails - the scales of the ocean creatures and from his blood - the rainbow. He crowns the work by trees. The cradle of life is ready to receive man, woman and the other animals of his creation.
The stamp illustrates Taaroa from the picture of a gifted Hawaiian painter, dancer, singer and music composer Bobby Holcomb.
