The Russian Post has issued a new commemorative stamp congratulating the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on the 200th Anniversary of Independence.
The stamp depicts the silhouette of the monument to Simon Bolivar on the background of the national flag of Venezuela.
For a long time the territory of the Venezuelan coast was colonized by the Spanish crown.
According to the constitution, adopted in December 1811, Venezuela was declared a republic. One of the leaders of the national liberation struggle was Simon Bolivar. He took an active part in the overthrow of Spanish supremacy in Venezuela and the proclamation of its independence and in 1819 was elected president of the republic of Gran Colombia, consisting of Venezuela and New Granada.
