Croatian Post has issued two new commemorative postage stamps from the Europa series, which features forests as this year's theme.
The stamps were printed in 300 000 copies each and were issued in 18-stamp sheets. Both stamps were designed by Robert Rebernak, a designer from Zagreb.
The motifs themselves are works by two Croatian painters, Lovro Artukovic and Josip Zanki. Zanki's painting was inspired by the Velebit mountain range and its mythical inhabitants, who found their way into his work. The stamp featuring Artukovic's "Forest scene with spider web" is, in a way, a return of that particular work to the viewing public - the original was stolen in 2002 and is still missing.
