Luggage with $200,000 of stamps stolen at Midway

Luggage with $200,000 of stamps stolen at Midway

A man accused of stealing luggage from Midway International Airport got more than just clothes, shoes and toiletries.

Antoine Shaw, 39, of the 7100 block of South Eggleston Avenue, is charged with felony theft after he grabbed the luggage of a postage stamp collector.

On Nov. 18, Shaw was at Midway, where he took luggage from the baggage claim area. The luggage belonged to a stamp collector man from Austin, Texas. The luggage contained about $200,000 worth of rare stamps, the sergeant said.

Shaw twice went to pawn shops, and sold some of the stamps. When he went a third time, an employee alerted police. It was unclear why the employee was suspicious.

Shaw was arrested with a woman, who was eventually released without being charged. Shaw has been arrested before for swiping luggage from Midway.

Some of the stamps were recovered.
