History of Belgium: The First World War

This series of stamps was issued to commemorate the 90th anniversary from the World War I. 90.

The stamps illustrate the port of Menin in Ypres (the scene of the bitterest fighting during World War I), the statue of the king Albert I of Belgium and a flower of red poppy. Because poppies bloomed in much of the Western front in World War I, they have become a symbol to military veterans.
