Colossus back in action

Colossus back in action

A sheet of 20 stamps based on this image will be available shortly. They celebrate the rebuild of the world's first electronic computer going live at Bletchley Park on 15th November 2007. The last time a Colossus machine was on "active service" was in 1945. Churchill ordered them to be destroyed when war ended.

The "Thank You" is for Tommy Flowers and his team who created this world first in 1943. Without it the D Day landings would not have been possible and the course of history could have been very different. A second "Thank You" goes to Tony Sale and his project team who rebuild the current machine from the merest scraps of information. A task that took 14 years.
