Blast Off! 50 Years in Space

Stamp Collecting Month 2007 stamps feature six significant events that have occurred in the first 50 years of modern space exploration.

The six stamp series features the artwork by Jamie Tuffrey.

Although a small nation, Australia played an important technical role in early space exploration and continues to give that support today. Almost all of the television images covering the 1969 Apollo II mission came through the Honeysuckle Creek and Tidbinbilla tracking stations with assistance from the Parkes radio telescope.

Featured on the stamps are:

Sputnik 1957
First Space Walk 1965
First Moon Walk 1969
Voyager 1977
International Space Station 1998
Hubble Space Telescope 1990
