Centenary of the National Anthem

Centenary of the National Anthem

On 17 July An Post issued a 55c stamp commemorating the Centenary of the National Anthem. Originally composed as a revolutionary song in 1907 with words by Peadar Kearney, who also wrote the music with Patrick Heeney, it was first published in 1912 in the Nationalist newspaper 'Irish Freedom'.

The stamp was designed by Ger Garland and depicts a girl's choir from Colaiste Iosagain, Co. Dublin with a representation of the National Flag and notes from the National Anthem also featured.
