There are BIG THINGS all over Australia, from BIG ananas to BIG Guitars to BIG Barramundi… These BIG, usually bizarre and almost always on the roadside things are colloquially known as Australia's Big Things. These giant, kitsch replicas scattered across the continent have traditionally functioned as giant advertising billboards, built to entice motorists to stop and empty their wallets when driving long distances on Australian highways. But on a deeper level these local tourist attractions represent and identify local communities. While representing iconic Australiana, Big Things themselves have become iconic for many Australians.
Australia Post have issued five new stamps featuring some of the large roadside replicas that can be found scattered across the country.
