Great Hungarians: Janos Ferencsik and Lajos Batthyany

Janos Ferencsik (Budapest, 18 January 1907 – Budapest, 12 June 1984) Kossuth Prize winner (1951, 1961), Artist of Merit (1952) and Artist of Excellence (1954), Bartok-Pasztory Prize winner (1986), conductor.

The HUF 107 denomination shows a portrait of Ferencsik with a concert scene in the background. The first day cover features Ferencsik while conducting with the building of the Opera House behind him. The design of the commemorative postmark features a silhouette of the conductor.

Count Lajos Batthyany (Pozsony, today Bratislava, 14 February 1807 - Pest, 6 October 1849) was a liberal landowner, head of the first independent Hungarian government.

The HUF 135 denomination shows a portrait of Lajos Batthyany. In the background of the stamp there is a design inspired by Mor Than, showing Lajos Batthyany being ordered to leave by Windisch-Gratz, who was unwilling to receive the Hungarian committee in the count's presence. The first day cover shows a scene from the diet and the design of the commemorative postmark is comprised of a sword and a laurel wreath.
