For many years Greenland has issued stamps of the EUROPA-series. The idea of a joint stamp issue was first conceived in the beginning of the 1950s, when the "Coal and Steel Community" (namely the Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, France, West Germany, and Italy) decided to issue an annual special issue with a common design. The first stamp of the series was issued in 1956. This year Greenland issues a commemorative stamp for the 50th anniversary of the EUROPA-stamps that depicts the award-winning contribution of the series from 2004.
