Gunnery Sgt. John Basilone will be honored with a commemorative postage stamp, recognizing the World War II hero as one of four distinguished Marines who served with outstanding bravery and honor during the 20th Century. The stamp will be issued on Nov. 10 during a ceremony held at Marine Barracks Washington at 1 p.m.
The stamp features an image from a 1943 photograph of Sgt. Basilone, as well as the insignia of the 5th Marine Division, the division with which he served, and gave his life, during the invasion of Iwo Jima in February 1945.
