75 Years of Airmail in South Africa

75 Years of Airmail in South Africa

World Post Day is celebrated every year around the world to mark the founding of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU congress held in Tokyo, Japan in 1969. This year the South African Post Office will celebrate this day by issuing a miniature sheet on 9 October 2004. The miniature sheet features the first aircraft that was used to transport mail when the Airmail service was established in South Africa 75 years ago.
