Saint Joseph's Oratory, located in Montreal, started with the dream of a simple, modest man, Brother Andre, who wanted to share his love of Saint Joseph with others. In its beginnings in 1904, the small chapel was a reflection of the man. However, 100 years later, the Oratory has become a reflection of the grandeur of his dream. Today, this fascinating site welcomes more than two million pilgrims and tourists every year. On April 2, Canada Post will mark the 100th anniversary of the largest sanctuary in the world dedicated to Saint Joseph, with a new 49c stamp honouring this major tourist attraction.
The photograph of Saint Joseph's Oratory featured on the stamp, is by Bernard Brault. It was taken from the front and highlights the many steps leading to its entrance.
