Prince Edward Island's only university, the University of Prince Edward Island, is the latest in a succession of remarkable higher educational institutions whose historical roots date back two centuries to the establishment of Kent College by an 1804 provincial Executive Council Resolution. Canada Post is pleased to announce it will recognize the 200th anniversary of the University of Prince Edward Island with a commemorative 49c stamp that will be issued on May 8, 2004. The stamp will be unveiled that day at the University's Convocation ceremonies.
