Iceland: Bruarhlod in Biskupstungur

Bruarhlod is a narrow gorge through which Hvita – White river – runs south of Tungufell in Hrunamannahreppi. Because of the close and narrow quarters the river is very deep, at least 10 meter under the bridge. The rock which the river has eroded through the ages is called pursaberg (breccia). The present bridge was built in 1959. It is estimated that the depth of the river in the 1929 floods was close to 21 meters.
