Clinton lauds presidential libraries stamp

Former President Clinton said a new U.S. postage stamp celebrating 50 years of presidential libraries will draw attention to institutions that are cornerstones of an open society.

"These libraries are priceless repositories of American history," Clinton said. "We're always thinking of today and tomorrow. But we can understand better what to do if we understand our yesterdays."

The blue-and-white 37-cent stamp features the presidential seal. The same design was unveiled at each of the 11 presidential libraries in the National Archives and Records Administration System and at the private Richard Nixon Library in Yorba Linda, Calif.

Clinton was the only former president to attend one of the ceremonies. Allen Weinstein, the new national archivist, also traveled to the event at the Clinton Library, which opened in November.
