Italian Minister of Communications Paolo Gentiloni has approved the release of a special stamp dedicated to Domenico Modugno's Nel blu dipinto di blu also known worldwide as Volare. The song was the Italian entry in the 1958 Eurovision Song Contest and one of the greatest hits ever to come out of the contest.

What do Bette Davis, "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," and Latin jazz have in common? They're some of the subjects recognized in the Postal Service's 2008 stamp program.

"The 2008 stamp program recognizes a range of subjects as diverse as America itself, from the Chinese Lunar New Year celebrated in Chinatowns all over the country, to 20th century movie icons and literary figures, to the flags of our states and territories," said Postmaster General John Potter.

Personalities and anniversaries commemorated on stamps Personalities and anniversaries commemorated on stamps

Maltese and Gozitan personalities and local and international anniversaries are being commemorated on a set of five stamps and a miniature sheet being issued by the Philatelic Bureau of Maltapost on Saturday, 29 December.

This set has been designed by Harry Borg. The stamps feature the 25th anniversary of the Youth Football Association, St Joseph Institute founder Canon Monsignor Professor Francesco Bonnici, the 100th anniversary of the Society of Christian Doctrine, Carolina Cauchi, Gozitan foundress of a Dominican Monastery in Gozo, and Jesuit Father Manwel Magri. The miniature sheet commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome.

The third country miniature sheet, Celebrating Northern Ireland, and the last in the series of Smiler / Generic sheets for the home nations, Glorious Northern Ireland, will be issued simultaneously on 11 March 2007. Other sheets have been issued on the country's saints' days but Celebrating Northern Ireland will be issued a week earlier at the request of the Northern Ireland Office to enable St Patrick's Day cards to be posted to destinations overseas for the big day.

The FYR Macedonian national post has issued a new postage stamp with the face of the late megastar Tose Proeski. The popular singer was killed in a car crash earlier this year.

Breast cancer is the most common form of the disease to afflict women in the Western world. In Denmark, 4,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. The disease is serious, but early detection increases the chance of successful treatment.
