The Finns have voted for twin brothers and a little cowherd girl to go on stamps
The pictures for the stamps to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Finland's independence have been chosen.
Four photos were chosen by public vote, and the four other photos going on the stamps were selected by the Finland Post Stamp Art Committee in cooperation with the Finnish Independence 90th Anniversary Committee. The committees were assisted by graphic designer Paivi Vainionpaa, who is responsible for designing the commemorative stamps. All eight photos come from home photo albums belonging to Finns and are the fruits of the Memories of Finland photograph competition held by Finland Post and daily newspaper Helsingin Sanomat's monthly supplement.

Modern Art in Austria - Hermann Nitsch

This is the basic approach that characterises Hermann Nitsch's artistic production, which is to be the focus of the largest public exhibition of the artist's works to date in the new Hermann Nitsch Museum from 23 May 2007. The opening of the museum constitutes the opening of the first completed stage of the new Mistelbach Museum Centre that is being built on the site of the former Heger plough factory.

Potter gets licked
The Royal Mail is marking Harry Potter mania with millions of stamps. Images from the covers of J. K. Rowling's seven books will appear on first-class stamps. The crests of Hogwarts school and its four houses will also appear on a set of five. The stamps will be available on July 17, four days before the final book – Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – goes on sale.

80th Anniversary of the Samaritan Federation
The 80th anniversary celebrations of the Austrian Workers' Samaritan Federation (ASBOe) are to be held from 18 to 20 May on the Vienna Town Hall Square, an occasion that is commemorated by the Austrian Post Office in the form of a stamp showing the fresco from the Franciscan Monastery in Schwaz depicting the Good Samaritan.

Australia: Circus 2007 stamps
This new circus issue focuses on the circus acts performed under the big top, particularly crazy acts that can make an audience wonder "Are they really doing that?" The illustrations are based on photographs of actual Australian acts from the 1960s to present day, and show a range of acts undertaken over this period, from daring aerial feats and fire juggling to strange acts of contortion and an explosive human cannon ball. The stamps are illustrated by artist Jim Tsinganos and capture the humor, color and absurdity of circus acts that most appeal to children.

Swiss Post special stamps set pictures in motion
The Museum of Communication in Berne is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. Swiss Post is commemorating this event by issuing two special stamps. For the first time, these make use of lenticular printing technology. Depending on the angle, the viewer sees different images which appear to move. The Museum for Communication owns the largest collection of Swiss stamps in the world.

Set in a landscape of geothermal activity lies Whakarewarewa, a traditional M-aori village that has occupied the area for more than 200 years. Famed for its hot thermal springs and bubbling mud pools, Whakarewarewa boasts the largest geyser in New Zealand. Its name is an abbreviation of Whakarewarewatanga O Te Ope A Waihiao, which means 'the uprising of the war party at Waihiao', referring to a war party performing a war dance by the geysers before going into action.

Finland: The Moomins are back on stamps
The new stamp booklet shows the members of the Moomin family spending a summer's day in their own way: Moominmamma is making pancakes, Moominpappa is using a typewriter on a rock in the middle of the lake, the Snork Maiden is picking flowers and Moomintroll is hopping on rocks on the shoreline with dragonflies at his heels. The booklet of six non-value indicator stamps also has stamps for Little My and Snufkin. Little My is floating in a reed bed on her stamp and Snufkin is shown dreaming among flowers on his.

Art brut

Public transport vehicles and services
Helsinki City Transport and the Helsinki Metropolitan Area Council will host a major public transport event to be held in Helsinki this May, the 57th world conference of the UITP (International Association of Public Transport). The conference will be heralded by a public transport stamp booklet, with four self-adhesive 1st class non-value indicator stamps depicting the public transport vehicles and services of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area.
