50th Anniversary of the XVI Summer Olympic Games
On 13 November 2006 Hungary Post is issuing a stamp block to commemorate the medal-winning sportsmen and -women of the Summer Olympiad 50 years ago, in harmony with Magyar Posta's intention and fulfilling collectors' expectations. The theme "Olympic History" is expanded biennially and like this the medal winners from the Summer Olympics held prior to 1956 will also feature on a stamp.

2007 stamps - the excitement of Eurovision and the scent of gingerbread
Next year, Finland Post will issue 53 different stamps in 25 issues. The issue dates are 24 January, 7 March, 9 May, 23 August and 2 November.
A four-stamp miniature sheet will be issued for the Eurovision Song Contest which will be held in Finland next May. One of the stamps is by Mr Lordi, Tomi Putaansuu himself.

Origin of Humankind
Of the thousands of hominin fossils discovered in South Africa, four extinct fossil species have been identified: Australopithecus africanus, Paranthropus robustus, Homo ergaster and Homo heidelbergensis. To commemorate the Origin of Humankind, the South African Post Office issued this set of stamps on 10 November 2006. Dr Francois Durand created the artwork for this stamp issue.

Austria: Animals - Northern Bald Ibis and Brown Bear
The Northern Bald Ibis belongs to the ibis family. It is a social bird who seeks out members of its species to form colonies consisting of over one hundred members.
The Brown Bear is one of the largest land predators in the world. Considered a potential threat to humans, its numbers have been decimated, and in several regions it has even been hunted to extinction.

Animals - Pond Turtle

Iceland: Insects and spiders
The Norwegian wasp (Dolichovespula norwegica) was first found in the summer of 1980 both in the West and the East of the country. Its nest is often quite exposed and visible. Two species of ladybeetle are found in Iceland, the ladybird (Coccinella undecimpunctata) and the ladybug (Scymnus limonii). The ladybird is about 4 mm in length with a black head and eleven black dots on the wings. Icelandic ladybirds can usually be seen early in spring until September.

Church vent anger over Christmas stamps
The Church of England have sent a message of 'regret' to Royal Mail expressing their disappointment over this year's Christmas stamps.
The stamps, due to be issued on 7 November focus more on festivities than religion, a decision which has angered the Church.

Iceland: Mushrooms
The cap of the yellow cracked boletus (Xerocomus subtomentosus) is 4-10 cm in diameter. It matures on the ground in mixed woods and heaths. It is not common but can be found sporadically. It is a good, tasty mushroom. Sheathed woodtuft (Kuehneromyces mutabilis) is 3-6 cm across. It is common in dense clusters on stumps or trunks of deciduous trees.

Iceland: Christmas Stamps 2006
