An Post Issue Four New Stamps Celebrating Ireland's Waterways
An Post today issued four new stamps showcasing the beauty of Ireland's inland waterways. The stamps, all denominated at 75c, feature four scenes: a lock keepers cottage on the Grand Canal at Cornalour, County Offaly; the Barrow Navigation at Graignamanagh, County Kilkenny; the river Shannon at Meelick Pier, County Galway and the Belturbet Marina on the River Erne in County Cavan.

The birds and the bees
WASHINGTON — The nation's capital was abuzz with excitement today when the U.S. Postal Service unveiled four beautiful Pollination stamps at the North American Pollinator Protection Campaign (NAPPC) Symposium. The stamps, which will be released next summer, consist of four images arranged in two alternate and interlocking patterns. The intricate design of these beautiful stamps emphasizes the ecological relationship between pollinators and plants and suggests the biodiversity necessary to ensure the viability of that relationship.

Modern Art in Austria - Valentin Oman
The original panel painting shown on the commemorative comes from the "Homo sapiens" cycle painted by Valentin Oman in 2005. It is in mixed techniques on canvas and measures 195 x 150 cm. Its motif is an example of the focus of Oman's works: "The central theme of my painting is the human image."

The Europa stamp 'Integration through the eyes of children' was issued 4 May. It depicts a small king, who proudly puts down his staff among the islands and ¬skerries and declares himself king of his new country. Andreas Dienert was the stamp artist.

Species at risk found on new stamps
To mark Stamp Month 2006, Canada Post will issue the first in a series of three sets of stamps depicting endangered species native to Canada. The initial set of four domestic rate (51c) stamps bear images of the Blotched Tiger Salamander, the Blue Racer snake, the Swift Fox and the Newfoundland Marten – all land creatures. Canadian stamps featuring at-risk water creatures and air creatures will be issued in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
