Bridging Canada from coast to coast... on stamps
They can be fixed or moveable; made from timber, steel, concrete or cable; they are beamed, trussed, arched or suspended. Each is a construction feat that allows its users to cross obstacles large and small. On April 2, Canada Post will issue four new stamps honouring the engineering marvel that is the bridge. The four bridges pictured on the stamps are: the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge, the Canso Causeway, the Jacques-Cartier Bridge and the Souris Swinging Bridge.

First Rival for Royal Mail

Canada Post unveils TD Bank stamp
Canada Post commemorated TD Bank Financial Group's 150th anniversary today with a stamp honouring the Bank's significant contribution to Canada's financial landscape, Canadians and their communities. The 50 cents stamp was unveiled this morning at a special ceremony in Toronto, before several hundred TD Bank employees and community groups the bank supports.

Audubon's last stand... Canada Post issues final set of stamps
On March 23, letter-writers, collectors and art aficionados can share a piece of the most expensive book in the world... for as little as 50 cents. In March 2000, a copy of John James Audubon's Birds of America fetched $8.8 million at Christie's Auction House, the highest amount of money ever paid for a book. Canada Post is proud to issue five stamps featuring images from Birds of America that commemorate the presence of the wildlife artist John James Audubon in Canada almost 175 years ago.

Iceland: Occasional stamps
Occasional stamps are stamps that can be used for various festive occasions, i.e. birthdays, weddings, etc. These are the first stamps of their kind issued by Iceland Post. The flowers depicted on the stamps are the African daisy (gerbera jamesonii), the tulip (tulipa gesneriana), the rose (rosa "Red Berlin") and red calla (zantedeschia rehmannii). These are all popular gift flowers. All the stamps are printed in five colours with the fifth colour being a gold print colour (pantone) in the lettering (Island), values, sheet margins and lines in the foreground of the stamps.

Austria: Liechtenstein Museum Wien - Rubens
The masterpiece "Venus in front of the Mirror" was painted around 1613/14 by Peter Paul Rubens (1577 1640), and appears to have been inspired by the art of antiquity and by Italian painters such as Raphael, Titian, Tintoretto and Caravaggio. Venus has her back to the viewer, looking almost seriously into the mirror held by Cupid and framing the masterful and elegant coquettishness of her face.

Expo 2005
Canada was the first country to join Expo 2005, seizing the opportunity to export this country's image world-wide by putting on view its diversity, creativity and innovation. When Canada chose as its theme "Wisdom of Diversity," Canada Post decided it wanted a stamp to convey how the country's diversity is found everywhere in its people, fauna, flora, geology, and climate.
