South Africa has a rich spider fauna and 67 families represented by 433 genera and about 2900 species are known. This represents about 9% of the world's fauna. This rich fauna of spiders can play an important part in South African in the control of pest species.

100 years of athletic excellence: new stamps mark centennial of Canadian involvement in the summer Olympics
In the summer of 1904, the Galt Football Club travelled to St. Louis, Missouri to represent Canada in the second Olympic Football Tournament. The team defeated two American clubs to win the Gold Medal and set the stage for what has become one of our country's most popular team sports. Canada Post will pay tribute to this summer's Olympic Games and one hundred years of participation by Canadian athletes with two new stamps to be issued on July 28, 2004.

Celebrating 125 years of fair fun! Canada Post issues stamp for the CNE's 125th anniversary
The sights, the sounds, the music, and the adventure – for more than a million people each year, the Canadian National Exhibition is the last hurrah of the summer season. One of the largest annual fairs in North America, the CNE has firmly established itself as Toronto's annual summer celebration and a major tourist attraction. Canada Post will issue a stamp on July 19th, in honour of the 125th anniversary of the Canadian National Exhibition.

China to destroy US$365m of stamps
The State Postal Bureau of China began the destruction of 3 billion yuan (around US$365 million) of stamps on Friday in an attempt to boost the country's flagging philatelic market.
Special and commemorative stamps released between 1992 and 2001 will be minced over a two month period at the Beijing Postage Stamp Printing Bureau.

Original US stamps celebrate birthday
The 1st July sees the 157th anniversary of the release of the first postage stamps by the US Postal Service.
First made available in 1847, the five cent stamp featured Benjamin Franklin (the first Postmaster General of the United States) whilst the 10 cent stamp depicted George Washington.
