Lunar year of the Monkey
The South African Post Office issued a miniature sheet on 27 February 2004 to celebrate the Chinese Lunar Year of the Monkey. The miniature sheet is the 6th to be issued depicting a Chinese Zodiac Sign. The series began with the year of the Tiger issued in 1998 and we have since then seen the Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse and now the Monkey. According to the Chinese Lunar Year, the Year of the Monkey starts on 22 January and ends on 12 February.

Russia: 100th Birth Anniversary of Khariton
Yu.B.Khariton (1904-1996) was a physicist, one of the USSR designers of nuclear weapons and nuclear engineering. Yu.B.Khariton and Ya.B.Zeldovich were the first to calculate the chain fission reaction. Yu.B.Khariton was the author of the theoretical works on burning, detonation and explosion. The stamp features Yu.B.Khariton and the first USSR A-bomb created in the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics.

Dr. Seuss to be Commemorated on Postage Stamp

John Wayne saddles up
The U.S. Postal Service has chosen Marion Michael Morrison, better-known to millions of adoring fans as John Wayne, to be honored in the Legends of Hollywood commemorative stamp series this year. The full pane of stamps will be unveiled at the Odyssey Ball, a private fundraising gala for the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, on April 3, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The official first day of issue ceremony will be held later in the year.
